While working with rsync on some backup directories I ran into something that while correct made me cringe: trying to chown a file owned by root in a directory my user had write permissions to failed with ″Operation not permitted″, but rsync rolled over it and changed the permissions. Over the past 13 years of career in the tech industry I've been a developer, a system engineer, a devops person, a manager and a startup owner.
